Essential to British Columbia's Energy Security
The Burnaby Refinery proudly produces about 30% of all transportation fuel used across British Columbia, including gasoline, jet fuel and diesel.
In addition:
- The refinery produces approximately 20% of Vancouver International Airport’s jet fuel (YVR)
- Approximately 63% of the refinery’s production stays in the lower mainland
From vehicles on the road to aircraft taking off from one of Canada’s busiest airports, Burnaby’s locally produced fuels help keep the province moving.

The refinery supplies essential fuels to individuals, businesses, and public institutions across the region, including:

Driving Low-Carbon Fuel Innovation
The Burnaby Refinery plays a leading role in advancing British Columbia’s climate and emissions reduction goals. Beyond reducing our own emissions, we are at the forefront of low carbon fuel development through innovative co processing technology.
Co-processing: Lowering Carbon Intensity at Scale
Through co-processing, we replace a portion of crude oil with renewable feedstocks—such as tallow or canola oil—to create lower carbon fuels. These fuels can have up to 1/8 the carbon intensity of traditional counterparts, offering meaningful emissions reductions for consumers across the province.
Investing in the Future of Renewable Fuel Production
Sunoco continues to expand and invest in this innovative capability to increase access to cleaner transportation fuels in British Columbia.
