Leading the Way: Sunoco LP's Board of Directors and Senior Management

Senior Management

Joseph Kim

Joseph Kim is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sunoco LP since January of 2018. He also serves on the Board of Directors. In previous roles within Sunoco LP, he has served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Development Officer.

Prior to joining Sunoco LP in October 2015, Mr. Kim held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Pizza Hut, where he was responsible for management of all operations. Prior to that, he worked for 15 years at Valero Energy, where his most recent position was Senior Vice President of Retail Strategy and Growth. He also held senior roles in operations, investor relations, real estate and corporate development. He began his career with Arthur Andersen in audit and business consulting.

Mr. Kim is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Karl Fails

Karl Fails is Chief Operating Officer of Sunoco LP. He is responsible for overall financial and operational performance of the company, including direct management of transportation and midstream operations and commercial business development activities. Mr. Fails previously held the position of Chief Commercial Officer and various other leadership positions during his tenure at Sunoco LP.

Prior to joining Sunoco LP in 2010, Mr. Fails served in various operations and engineering roles in the refining business for both Valero Energy and Exxon. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and math from Brigham Young University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Brian Hand

Brian Hand is Executive Vice President, Chief Sales Officer of Sunoco LP. He is responsible for all aspects of the fuel distribution business, including strategic acquisition and divestment, branded/unbranded wholesale, direct dealers, performance products retail fuel pricing, and sales. Mr. Hand previously held the position of Chief Development and Marketing Officer, and various other leadership positions during his tenure with Sunoco LP and Sunoco, Inc.

Prior to joining Sunoco LP in 2010, Mr. Hand served in various leadership positions at Hewlett- Packard, Blockbuster, Inc., and Cingular Wireless (now AT&T Mobility).

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management from Lebanon Valley College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Widener University.

Austin Harkness

Mr. Harkness has served as Chief Commercial Officer since June 2021. He is responsible for all aspects of the partnership’s supply, trading, pricing, real estate and unbranded sales activity. Mr. Harkness previously held the position of Vice President, Pricing & Real Estate beginning in March 2020 when he joined the partnership.

Prior to joining the partnership, Mr. Harkness held various executive positions, including Chief Operating Officer for Honor and Vice President, Operations at YUM! Brands. Prior to that, Mr. Harkness worked at McKinsey where he served clients on a variety of strategic and commercial topics spanning multiple industries.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Business Honors Program and a Master of Business Administration degree from the McCombs School of Business, both at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dylan Bramhall

Dylan Bramhall is Chief Financial Officer of Sunoco LP responsible for oversight of all areas of finance and treasury with a focus on strategic development.

Prior to joining Sunoco LP in 2020, Mr. Bramhall served in various leadership roles in finance, treasury and M&A in the midstream business for Energy Transfer and its various affiliates including Regency Energy Partners dating back to 2006.

Mr. Bramhall holds both a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa.

Scott Grischow

Scott Grischow is Senior Vice President, Finance and Treasurer for Sunoco LP. He is responsible for all aspects of corporate finance and development, including capital markets and investor relations functions, as well as financing structures, merger and acquisition and other strategic activities.

Prior to joining Sunoco LP, Mr. Grischow was Senior Director of Finance at Susser Holdings Corporation which was acquired by Energy Transfer Partners in 2014. He began his career in the Corporate Finance and Restructuring practices at KPMG, LLP and FTI Consulting, Inc.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Austin College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University.

 


Board of Directors

Mr. Washburne was appointed to the Sunoco LP Board of Directors and elected to serve as Chairman of the Board beginning in April 2022. Mr. Washburne is President and Chief Executive Officer of Charter Holdings, Inc., a Dallas-based investment company involved in real estate, restaurants, and diversified financial investments.

From August 2017 to February 2019, Mr. Washburne served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the United States government’s development finance institution. Mr. Washburne previously serviced as a Director of Energy Transfer LP and Veritex Holdings, Inc.

He has also served as an adjunct professor at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. Mr. Washburne is a member of the American Enterprise Institute, the Council on Foreign Relations, and is on the Advisory Board for the United States Southern Command.

Oscar A. Alvarez served the Republic of Honduras for over 30 years, and was elected as a Representative in the National Congress of Honduras multiple times before retiring from politics in 2018. Over the course of his political career, he was appointed to the cabinet position of Secretary of Security in both 2002 and 2010.

Prior to this, he assisted with the diplomatic mission of the Honduran Embassy in Washington D.C. as Assistant Defense Attache. In 1994, Mr. Alvarez entered the private sector and founded Atessa Seguridad S.A., providing turnkey security services for many major banks in the country of Honduras. A veteran of the Honduran Armed Forces, he is a graduate of United States Army Ranger School in Fort Benning, GA, and the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, NC.

Mr. Alvarez has a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, where he was the first cadet to be commissioned into a foreign army. He has also taken graduate courses in international relations at Johns Hopkins University.

W. Brett Smith has served on the Board since March 2024. Mr. Smith also has served as President and Managing Partner of Rubicon Oil & Gas, LLC since October 2000, President of Rubicon Oil & Gas II, LP since May 2005, President of Quientesa Royalty LP since February 2005, President of Acton Energy LP since October 2008 and President of Promontory Exploration, LP since 2017. Mr. Smith was President of Rubicon Oil & Gas, LP from October 2000 to May 2005. For more than 30 years Mr. Smith has been active in assembling exploration prospects in the Permian Basin, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and the Rocky Mountain areas. Mr. Smith served on the board of directors of the general partner of ETO and on its audit committee from February 2018 through April 2021. Mr. Smith served on the board of directors of USA Compression Partners, LP from April 2021 to March 2024. Mr. Smith also previously served on the board of directors of Sunoco LP and was a member of its audit and compensation committees.

Christopher Curia has served as a Sunoco LP Director since August 2014. He joined Energy Transfer in July 2008 and currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of Energy Transfer.

Prior to joining Energy Transfer, Mr. Curia held HR leadership positions at both Valero Energy Corporation and Pennzoil and brings with him more than three decades of human resources experience in the oil and gas field. He also has several years’ experience in the retail sector of the energy industry.

He earned a Master’s degree in industrial relations from the University of West Virginia.

David Skidmore previously served as a director of the general partner of Energy Transfer Operating, L.P. (ETO). He has been Vice President of Ventex Oil & Gas, Inc. since 1995 and has been actively involved in exploration and production throughout the Gulf Coast and mid-Continent regions for over 35 years. He founded Skidmore Exploration, Inc. in 1981 and has been an independent oil and gas producer since that time. From 1977 to 1981, he worked for Paraffine Oil Corporation and Texas Oil & Gas in Houston. He holds BS degrees in both Geology and Petroleum Engineering, is a Certified Petroleum Geologist and Registered Professional Engineer, and active member of the AAPG, and SPE. Mr. Skidmore also previously served as a member of ETO’s audit committee.
